Gaza Floods Emergency Response

What is happening in Gaza

When heavy rain swept across Gaza in early November 2026, at least 70,000 tents flooded within twelve hours, according to local authorities. Families woke to water inside their shelters, with mattresses, blankets and clothing soaked through. Emergency services received more than 1,500 calls for help in a single night, but severe shortages of fuel and equipment have left local teams unable to respond to the scale of the need.

This was only the first storm of the season. Around 162,000 tents now need replacing, and more than a million people are living in sites at risk of flooding. Many families face the months ahead in tents that are already damaged.

Prolonged exposure to cold and damp leaves families vulnerable to illness, with young children and older people most at risk. Every day without proper shelter, bedding and warm clothing increases that risk.
